Our Life Skills Therapy Program is uniquely designed to suit your child's individual needs. Programs are created to be parent-led, paired with frequent virtual support to ensure successful and effective therapy.

Each Life Skills Therapy Program is made up of many short- and long-term goals to help your child succeed in all areas of their life.

Each family is paired with a dedicated therapist, who will guide them through how to complete their programming, how to take notes and how to track progress.

The Life Skills Therapy Program, while intensive, is easily adapted to fit into your daily routine. It includes virtual support throughout the week, and depending on the plan, some in-home visits as well. Depending on your child's needs, we can offer between 3 to 12 completely individualized and personalized programs, that use a long- and short-term goal system. The programs address needs anywhere from social skills, self help skills, behaviour reduction or even toilet training. We use a combination of custom and standard assessments to evaluate your child's level of need, based off the following six categories (as appropriate).

  • Practical School Skills

  • Communication Skills

  • Social Skills

  • Fundamental Living Skills

  • Leisure Skills

  • Pre-Vocational and Vocational Skills

Our services are fully covered under OAP funding, and are more affordable than traditional services.  We offer a combination of custom and standard assessments separate from the program, so you can see what our recommendations are, and you would receive a tentative Therapy Plan with suggestions on moving forward.

Traditional therapy methods, including ABA or IBI Therapy, typically costs between $30 and $65/ hour of therapist time. Assessments, consultations, supervision, programming and other administrative work is often charged at rates of $80/ hour or more. For a child who needs therapy, it is widely recommended they receive 10-25 hours of support per week. On the lowest end, parents and caregivers can expect to pay at least $1200 /month to provide this level of support.

Our therapy is effective, efficient and affordable. We give parents the tools and understanding to develop their child's skills in the real-world.

Each plan offers between 45 mins and 1.5 hours of virtual support each week. This can be through phone calls, instant chat or video calls and is dedicated one-on-one time with your therapist to discuss progress and setbacks or ask any questions.

Each plan offers between 1 and 3 hours of administrative support each week. This can include ongoing email communication, program development or assessments. As each child progresses through their therapy, programs are adapted to continue meeting their needs.

Depending on you and your child's level of need, we offer up to a maximum of 12 life skill programs at a time.

Our plans can be adjusted to fit most schedules and budgets. Schedule a (free) 20-minute phone consultation today, to see if HummingbirdKids is right for you!
